I learned this, at least, by my experiment: that if we advance confidently in the direction of our own dreams, and endeavor to live the life which we have imagined, we will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. We will put some things behind, will pass an invisible boundary; new, universal, and more liberal laws will begin to establish themselves around and within us; or the old laws be expanded and interpreted in our favor in a more liberal sense, the laws of the universe will appear less complex, and we will live with the license of a higher order of beings.
Henry David Thoreau, from Walden (1854)
Dimitri
Dimitri Maekawa was born in human form on planet Earth on January 2, 1963, the first child of Rodolfo Maekawa and Margarita Renner, both classical musicians, Dimitri’s childhood was beautiful, magical, nurtured by the music of Bach, Chopin, Debussy and Stravinsky, nestled in the boundless love and wisdom he received from his parents. He graduated with honors as an Architect in Mexico City. In search of a more natural environment, he moved to Vancouver Island with his family. His love for art, in addition to his reverence for Nature, propelled him to explore the surroundings of his new world in search of a language he could use to express his gratitude and his understanding of the unity and Beauty of life.
Dimitri knows himself a visitor form the stars to this world. He loves the works of Rumi, Goethe, Leo Tolstoy, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Frank Lloyd Wright and Tadao Ando, where he finds solace and inspiration.
His spirit is inextricably connected with Germany and Japan, hopelessly in love with nature, music, architecture, wine and women … and trees … trees … the lover of uncontainable and immortal Beauty.
